I will be frank, I liked the notion behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple clicks and a client can set an order using a freelancer based on a specific set of deliverables.
Sure, but it comes at a price tag. A large one.
This is one the few freelance platforms at which buyers are given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail sellers any way they like.
Why? Since Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this post, I would like to share a recent bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, and also I chose to give up on the stage entirely.
(I've been guiding her on building a reputable accounts, and how to go above and beyond with every previous order. Everything stated is her doing, I'm only an observer.)
In this case, she'd only gotten another $5 order on her emblem gig, which seemed to be similar to another... or so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had even included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (which is usually a part of the costlier bundle ).
The client"loved" one of the concepts so we moved to send her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the final description.
The client came back asking for a social media kit to go with the emblem, something that is clearly not available as a member of her or his gig.
In my advice, my girlfriend decided to deliver the additional job, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
After that, the customer responded with much more requirements and some changes to the social networking files.
At this point, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their bounds here.
This is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to contemplate a reply and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did finally go ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she wasn't Is Fiverr A Scam? - Get My Honest Review - Make Money Bay kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service query, the customer paid an additional $10 for the social networking kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by still another threat.
At this point, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and hunt this individual down so that I could repeatedly punch them from the face.
However, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr support could step in and rescue my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the answer came back from Fiverr service, they told that they could Five Stars for Five Dollars: Buying Reviews, Reviewed HuffPost not force the purchaser to take the purchase.
Okay, that is reasonable enough. (though the purchaser already accepted it, technically.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a list for the purchaser to demonstrate the work has been completed in accordance with the gig requirements.
Frankly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email that the client was hoping to extort her to get free work out the agreed conditions, by making a negative review if she didn't comply.
Needless to say, it wasn't really about the job, it had been about seeking protection against an abusive client who was intentionally pushing his luck.
Their reply did not provide us some confidence that Fiverr really understood that, and even in this point we felt like they didn't need to get involved.
At precisely the same time, she responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the comments has been changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments that was clearly and intentionally made to intimidate her into supplying function outside of the agreed provisions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, correct? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all the rules.
Since she'd requested the customer to modify their feedback, she was no longer eligible for any assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we felt reading this.
Everything that the purchaser had said and done prior to her very last message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any way.
Fiverr basically chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she had worked so tough to accumulate.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
Well, as most of this was occurring, I did some investigating to determine if any other sellers went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a number of almost identical cases about the Fiverr forum dated years back. (that's right, years.)
This is clearly something which's been going on for a long time and it stems from providing buyers too much power over sellers.
If there's one thing I have heard about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how long you put into a project, or how hard you've worked on itor perhaps how well you managed communication in a dispute, even when it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even if it is a very clear cut case in your favour, there is still every chance the customer will come out on top. All it takes it one tiny thing you"did no way" according to their terms of support and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Taking a look at the evidence, it is obvious to me that Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet remains inclined to sit back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your current support processes for freelancers.
It is not right that somebody can set all that time and effort in to establishing an account and over-delivering at every possible opportunity, only to be taken down by the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I don't wish to abandon Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to avoid your own platform.
But after everything that has happened, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to safeguard freelancers from this type of abuse, I will continue to spread this post and do anything I can to prevent others from falling victim to a one-sided support staff.
The second you really do something about this and give freelancers a way to fight back, I will be more than happy check out this site to update this article.
